About the Role

About the Role

A forward-thinking secondary school in Derby, Derbyshire is seeking an ambitious RE Trainee Teacher who is ready to teach a full timetable from the outset as part of the Grad2Teach salaried teacher training programme.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with prior classroom experience—such as an unqualified teacher, HLTA, experienced cover supervisor or knowledgeable graduate—who is confident delivering lessons independently and wishes to formalise their teaching pathway.

While working full-time in the classroom, you will also have the chance to complete the Level 4 NCFE customised qualification, supporting your development in planning, behaviour, assessment and professional practice. This structured training helps you build the evidence and skills required to progress smoothly into Phase Two ITT, where you will train towards a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University.

This is a chance to earn a salary, teach RE across KS3–KS4, and work towards full qualification—all while being supported by Grad2Teach’s expert team.

About You

This role is perfect for a confident aspiring teacher already comfortable leading whole classes. You may be:

  • An unqualified RE or Humanities teacher

  • A cover supervisor or HLTA regularly delivering full lessons

  • A graduate with strong subject knowledge and significant school experience

  • A career changer with relevant teaching or training background

We are looking for:

  • Confidence in classroom delivery

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • A passion for Religious Education, ethics, philosophy, or Humanities

  • A reflective, proactive mindset

  • Commitment to progressing into a fully qualified teacher role

Training & Progression

Phase One (while teaching full timetable)

  • Full classroom responsibility

  • Opportunity to complete the Level 4 NCFE customised qualification in:

    • Teaching Fundamentals

    • Applied Teaching Techniques

    • Advanced Pre-ITT Practice

  • Structured school-embedded support

  • Observations, reflection journals, and tripartite review meetings

Phase Two

Progression into formal ITT, choosing a route that fits your experience:

  • PGCE with QTS via Coventry University (60 Master’s credits)

  • Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship

  • Assessment-Only Route (for highly experienced practitioners)

Training during Phase Two aligns with the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers’ Standards and includes independent teaching with up to 18 hours per week, academic study, mentor support and structured development.
