About the Role

Teaching Assistant

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and thrive in education? Join a vibrant, specialist secondary school in Derby, where your role as a Teaching Assistant (Pupil Support Worker) will have a meaningful impact every day.

This is an opportunity to support pupils with additional needs in a caring, structured environment where teamwork, empathy, and resilience are at the heart of everything we do.

About the School

This independent specialist secondary school provides a nurturing, inclusive environment for boys aged 11–18, many of whom arrive with complex emotional, social or behavioural needs. The school works hard to rebuild students’ trust in education, encouraging personal growth, self-esteem, and academic progress.

Staff work collaboratively to create a safe and aspirational setting. As part of a well-established and nationally recognised trust, the school also offers staff a range of development opportunities, wellbeing support, and access to sector-leading networks and resources.

About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant / Pupil Support Worker, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support across a broad and balanced curriculum

  • Help deliver tailored behaviour and learning strategies

  • Build trusting, positive relationships that support social, emotional and behavioural wellbeing

  • Prepare and organise resources and materials

  • Occasionally support transport arrangements for pupils after school or during visits

  • Be an active, valued member of a committed pastoral and academic team

Candidate Requirements

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Compassionate, patient, and supportive of young people with additional needs

  • A strong communicator with good interpersonal skills

  • Able to work calmly and consistently within a structured behaviour framework

  • Flexible and proactive in a team setting

  • Ideally holds Grade C/4 in GCSE English and Maths

This is a brilliant opportunity whether you’re experienced in education or looking to start a meaningful new chapter in pupil support.
