Grad2Teach is offering an exciting Graduate Trainee Teacher – Primary Education (HLTA) opportunity at a welcoming primary school in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. This salaried Phase One position is ideal for candidates who already have experience supporting learning in schools and are ready to develop their teaching skills through a structured training programme.
Working as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant while training, you will gain valuable classroom experience, support teaching and learning across the school, and begin studying towards your Level 4 qualification, with a clear progression route into Phase Two, PGCE and QTS.

As a Grad2Teach trainee, you will:
- Support teaching and learning across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 as required
- Deliver planned lessons and interventions for groups and whole classes
- Cover classes when required and support continuity of learning
- Work closely with class teachers to support pupil progress and attainment
- Assist with assessment, lesson preparation and classroom organisation
- Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development
- Develop your teaching skills through mentoring, coaching and professional training
This role is ideal for someone who wants to earn while they train, gain substantial classroom experience and progress towards becoming a qualified Primary teacher.
About You – Candidate Profile

You will:
- Be an aspiring Primary teacher with a passion for helping children learn and succeed
- Hold a degree or be working towards completing one
- Have experience working within a primary school environment
- Ideally have experience as an HLTA, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Cover Supervisor
- Be confident supporting whole-class learning and delivering planned activities
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be organised, proactive and eager to learn
- Be committed to high standards of teaching, learning and professional development
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
This role follows Grad2Teach’s fully salaried, two-phase teacher training model.
Phase One – Level 4 & Foundational Training
- Complete your Level 4 NCFE customised qualification while working in school
- Training aligned to the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers’ Standards
- Learn through guided practice, observations, mentoring and professional studies sessions
- Gain increasing classroom responsibility as your skills and confidence develop
Phase Two – PGCE & QTS (Coventry University)
Subject to successful progression, Phase Two includes:
- Teaching responsibility of up to 18 hours per week
- Completion of a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE)
- Ongoing mentoring, assessment and instructional coaching
- Development towards meeting all Teachers’ Standards
