Grad2Teach is offering an exciting Graduate Trainee Teacher – Geography opportunity at a partner secondary school in Weybridge.
This is a Phase One salaried position where you will be teaching from the start. The role is designed for a teach-ready candidate who already has experience working in a school or teaching environment and is ready to develop their practice through structured training and mentoring.
You will teach Geography from the beginning of the programme while working alongside experienced teachers and receiving regular support to develop your planning, classroom management, assessment and teaching practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching Geography from the start of Phase One
- Planning and delivering engaging Geography lessons
- Teaching pupils across the secondary age range
- Developing pupils' geographical knowledge, understanding and enquiry skills
- Supporting pupils to engage with geographical issues and real-world contexts
- Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining high expectations
- Assessing pupil progress and adapting teaching accordingly
- Preparing effective lesson resources and learning activities
- Working alongside experienced Geography teachers
- Supporting intervention, revision and enrichment activities
- Reflecting on your teaching and responding positively to feedback
- Taking on increasing responsibility as your skills and confidence develop
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school-based candidate who is ready to teach immediately while developing the professional knowledge and skills required to become a qualified Geography Teacher.
About You – Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have strong Geography subject knowledge, previous experience working in a school or teaching environment and the confidence to teach from the outset.
You should have:
- Previous experience teaching or working in a school – essential
- Strong Geography subject knowledge
- The confidence to teach Geography from the beginning of Phase One
- Experience working with secondary-aged pupils
- A genuine passion for Geography and education
- Strong classroom communication and interpersonal skills
- The ability to establish positive relationships with pupils
- A confident and professional approach to classroom management
- Strong organisation and time-management skills
- A willingness to learn, reflect and respond positively to feedback
- High expectations of yourself and your pupils
- The resilience and commitment required to develop as a teacher
Experience of planning and delivering lessons would be particularly advantageous, as you will be expected to take responsibility for teaching from the outset.
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
Phase One – Teaching & Level 4 Training
During Phase One, you will teach Geography from the beginning of your placement while completing a Level 4 NCFE customised qualification.
You will receive structured support alongside your teaching responsibilities, including:
- Training aligned with the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers’ Standards
- Regular observations and feedback on your teaching
- Dedicated mentoring and professional learning
- Support with lesson planning, assessment and classroom management
- Development of effective teaching and questioning strategies
- Opportunities to observe experienced teachers
- Support to reflect on and improve your classroom practice
- Increasing responsibility as your confidence and competence develop
Successful completion of Phase One provides a clear progression route into Phase Two, where you can work towards your PGCE with QTS.
Phase Two – PGCE & QTS
Subject to successful progression, Phase Two provides the opportunity to:
- Take on teaching responsibility of up to 18 hours per week
- Complete a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE)
- Continue receiving school-based mentoring and professional support
- Develop your teaching practice through structured training and assessment
- Work towards meeting all Teachers’ Standards
- Progress towards becoming a fully qualified Geography Teacher
