About the Role

Kings Norton Boys’ School in Birmingham is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Food Technology Trainee Teacher to train with them through the Grad2Teach salaried teacher training programme.

Starting Phase One in January, you will gain in-class experience while completing a Level 4 NCFE Customised Qualification. This phase is designed to support you in developing strong pedagogical foundations, classroom confidence, and understanding of the Teaching Standards and Core Content Framework—all without the pressure of a full timetable.

During this initial phase, your role will include:

  • Supporting high-quality Food Technology lessons at KS3–KS4

  • Assisting with practical demonstrations and classroom preparation

  • Developing behaviour management strategies suited to a boys’ school environment

  • Building subject knowledge and reflective practice through your training portfolio

  • Working with experienced teachers and receiving regular mentoring and observations

In September, you will progress to Phase Two, where you will begin teaching independently, taking on your own timetable (up to 18 hours per week) and completing your PGCE with QTS through Coventry University.

This is a fantastic opportunity to begin a transformative teaching career in a supportive, well-regarded secondary school environment.

About You – Candidate Profile

We welcome aspiring teachers, graduate trainees, and career changers into this full-time, salaried role.

The ideal trainee educator will have:

  • A passion for Food Technology, nutrition, hospitality, or related fields

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • A positive approach to learning, growth, and working with young people

  • Resilience and adaptability within a lively boys’ secondary school

  • A degree (any subject considered) and GCSEs required for ITT

Whether you already have experience working in schools or are keen to enter the education sector, this programme provides the training and mentoring needed to grow into a confident Food Technology teacher.
