About the Role

A supportive secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a passionate and motivated Graduate Trainee History Teacher to join its humanities department through the Grad2Teach salaried teacher training programme.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, aspiring teacher, or experienced education professional looking to begin a rewarding career in secondary teaching while earning a salary and working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

About the Role

As a Phase One Trainee Teacher, you will gain valuable classroom experience supporting History lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 while completing a structured Level 4 qualification through Grad2Teach.

You will work alongside experienced teachers, gradually developing your teaching practice, classroom confidence, and subject knowledge delivery in a real school environment.

This salaried teacher training programme is designed to provide a supportive introduction to teaching without the pressure of a full teaching timetable during the initial phase. Training is delivered outside of teaching hours, allowing you to maximise your in-school experience.

Your role may include:

  • Supporting History lessons and humanities learning
  • Working with pupils in small groups and whole-class settings
  • Assisting with lesson preparation and classroom activities
  • Developing behaviour management and teaching strategies
  • Building evidence towards the Teachers’ Standards and Core Content Framework (CCF)
  • Progressing towards independent teaching responsibilities

About You

We are looking for a graduate trainee, aspiring History teacher, or future educator who:

  • Holds a degree in History or a related subject
  • Has a genuine passion for education and historical learning
  • Is motivated to train as a secondary teacher
  • Demonstrates strong communication and organisational skills
  • Is reliable, reflective, and eager to learn
  • Has experience working with young people (desirable but not essential)

This opportunity is ideal for:

  • Graduates considering a PGCE route
  • Career changers exploring teaching
  • Teaching assistants ready to progress into teacher training
  • Individuals seeking a salaried route into education

Training & Progression

Grad2Teach provides a structured two-phase salaried teacher training programme.

Phase One

During Phase One, trainees complete a Level 4 qualification while gaining classroom experience and developing practical teaching skills linked to:

  • The Teachers’ Standards
  • The Core Content Framework (CCF)
  • Lesson planning and behaviour management
  • Assessment and inclusive teaching practice

Trainees remain fully salaried throughout the programme.

Phase Two

Successful trainees progress into Phase Two, where they move towards independent teaching while completing a PGCE with Coventry University and working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

The programme offers:

  • Ongoing mentoring and coaching
  • School-based training
  • Structured professional development
  • A long-term pathway into a teaching career

Why Choose Grad2Teach?
