Grad2Teach is offering an exciting Graduate Trainee Teacher – Chemistry opportunity at a supportive secondary school in Orpington, Kent. This salaried Phase One position is ideal for a graduate who is passionate about Chemistry and ready to develop their classroom practice while working towards their Level 4 qualification, with a clear progression route into Phase Two, PGCE and QTS.

As a Grad2Teach trainee, you will:

  • Support teaching and learning within the Science and Chemistry department
  • Work with students across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Assist with Chemistry practicals, experiments and investigations
  • Support pupils in developing their scientific knowledge and understanding
  • Help prepare lessons, practical resources and classroom activities
  • Observe experienced teachers and develop your own teaching practice
  • Build confidence in classroom management and behaviour strategies
  • Support intervention, revision and enrichment activities where appropriate
  • Take on increasing teaching responsibility as your skills and confidence develop

About You – Candidate Profile

We are looking for an ambitious and committed Chemistry graduate who is ready to begin their journey towards becoming a qualified teacher.

You will:

  • Hold a BA/BSc degree in Chemistry – essential
  • Be a motivated aspiring Chemistry teacher / graduate trainee
  • Have a genuine passion for Chemistry and Science education
  • Have strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for sharing it with young people
  • Be confident, professional and able to build positive relationships with students
  • Be reflective, resilient and eager to develop your teaching practice
  • Demonstrate strong communication and organisational skills
  • Be committed to high standards of behaviour, teaching and learning
  • Be willing to learn from experienced teachers and respond positively to feedback

Experience working with young people, whether through tutoring, coaching, schools or other educational settings, would be advantageous.

Training & Progression with Grad2Teach

This role follows Grad2Teach's fully salaried, two-phase teacher training model.

Phase One – Level 4 & Foundational Training

  • Complete your Level 4 NCFE customised qualification while working in school
  • Training aligned to the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers' Standards
  • Learn through guided practice, lesson observations, mentoring and professional learning sessions
  • Develop your classroom management and teaching skills through practical experience
  • Receive ongoing support from experienced teachers and Grad2Teach mentors
  • Build confidence and take on increasing responsibility as you progress

Phase Two – PGCE & QTS (Coventry University)

Subject to successful progression, Phase Two includes:

  • Teaching responsibility of up to 18 hours per week
  • Completion of a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE)
  • Ongoing mentoring, assessment and professional development
  • Development towards meeting all Teachers' Standards

This structured pathway provides a clear route from Phase One trainee to fully qualified Chemistry teacher.
