Trainee Secondary Teacher - HLTA & Cover Supervisor Roles
Partnerships Co-ordinator
About the Role
Multiple opportunities available
Are you a graduate looking to become a secondary school teacher while earning a salary and gaining valuable classroom experience?
Grad2Teach is recruiting multiple aspiring secondary teachers to join a high school in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. These salaried teacher training opportunities will see successful candidates begin in either a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) or Cover Supervisor role, depending on experience, subject knowledge and the needs of the school.
This is an excellent opportunity to build your confidence in the classroom, complete a Level 4 qualification and work towards progression into formal Initial Teacher Training and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
About the Role
As a Phase One Trainee Secondary Teacher, you will become an active member of the school community from the outset.
Depending on your experience and the position available, your role may involve:
-
Working as an HLTA, supporting teaching and learning across the secondary age range.
-
Working as a Cover Supervisor, leading pre-planned lessons when teaching staff are absent.
-
Supporting individual pupils and groups with their learning.
-
Developing strong behaviour management and classroom leadership skills.
-
Working alongside experienced teachers and learning from established classroom practice.
-
Gradually taking on greater responsibility as your confidence and experience develop.
-
Building the practical skills and evidence required to progress towards becoming a qualified teacher.
These roles provide an ideal foundation for graduates who want substantial school experience before moving onto a teaching timetable.
Salaried Teacher Training with Grad2Teach
Grad2Teach provides a structured, school-based route into teaching, allowing you to work, earn and train at the same time.
During Phase One, trainees complete an NCFE-accredited Level 4 Customised Qualification alongside their salaried school role. Training is designed to develop practical classroom skills while helping you reflect on your professional development.
Rather than moving immediately onto a full teaching timetable, Phase One allows you to develop your skills through real classroom experience and structured training.
About You
We are looking for several motivated graduates who are serious about building a long-term career in secondary education.
You could be a strong candidate if you:
-
Hold a degree and are interested in becoming a qualified secondary teacher.
-
Have strong subject knowledge that you would eventually like to teach.
-
Are confident communicating with young people.
-
Can establish positive and professional relationships with pupils.
-
Are organised, reliable and willing to take initiative.
-
Have the confidence to lead a classroom or are ready to develop this skill.
-
Are resilient and able to adapt to the demands of a busy high school.
-
Are enthusiastic about learning from experienced teachers and putting feedback into practice.
Previous school or classroom experience would be beneficial, particularly for candidates interested in the Cover Supervisor opportunities, but Grad2Teach is also interested in graduates with the potential and attitude to develop into excellent teachers.
Training & Progression
Your Grad2Teach journey begins with Phase One, combining your paid HLTA or Cover Supervisor position with structured professional development.
Your training will focus on areas including classroom practice, safeguarding, lesson planning, behaviour, assessment and professional reflection, with development linked to the Teachers’ Standards and the principles of the Core Content Framework (CCF).
As you become increasingly confident and classroom-ready, there is the opportunity to progress into Phase Two Initial Teacher Training.
Depending on the appropriate pathway, Grad2Teach supports progression towards QTS through routes including a PGCE with QTS in partnership with Coventry University’s National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE). Phase Two gives trainees increased teaching responsibility alongside formal teacher training and mentoring.
The goal is clear: to take you from a talented graduate trainee to a confident, capable and fully qualified teacher.
Why Apply?
This opportunity gives you the chance to:
-
Earn a salary while training to teach.

Begin as an HLTA or Cover Supervisor, depending on your experience and suitability.
