This salaried Phase One position will begin with you working as a Teaching Assistant (TA), supporting pupils and teachers while developing the practical skills and classroom experience needed to become a qualified teacher.

The role also offers the potential to gain additional experience through class cover opportunities, allowing you to develop your confidence in leading learning activities and managing a classroom.

Working alongside experienced teachers and support staff, you will gain a valuable insight into primary education while gradually taking on greater responsibility as your skills and confidence develop.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting teaching and learning across the primary age range

  • Working alongside class teachers to deliver engaging lessons and activities

  • Providing individual and small-group support to pupils

  • Helping children develop confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours

  • Supporting pupils who may need additional help with their learning

  • Assisting with classroom preparation and learning resources

  • Supporting effective classroom routines and behaviour management

  • Taking on class cover opportunities where appropriate, under the school's direction

  • Leading learning activities and supporting pupils during teacher absence when required

  • Observing experienced teachers and developing your understanding of effective teaching practice

  • Contributing to the wider life of the school

  • Gradually taking on increased classroom responsibility as your confidence and ability develop

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to gain a strong foundation in primary education, with the added benefit of potential class cover experience to help prepare for a future teaching role.

About You – Candidate Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and motivated individual who has a genuine passion for Primary education and wants to progress into teaching.

You should have:

  • A patient, approachable and encouraging manner

  • The confidence to support learning and contribute to classroom activities

  • Good organisation and time-management skills

  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider school team

  • A willingness to learn, reflect and respond positively to feedback

  • A professional attitude and commitment to high standards

  • The confidence and potential to develop towards leading lessons and covering classes

Previous experience working with children, young people or within a school environment would be advantageous.
