Grad2Teach is offering an exciting Graduate Trainee Teacher – Physical Education (PE) opportunity at a supportive secondary school in Finchley, London. This Phase One position begins as a PE Technician, providing an excellent foundation for aspiring PE teachers to gain valuable school-based experience while working towards their Level 4 qualification, with a clear pathway to Phase Two, PGCE and QTS.
This is a part-time role of 16 hours per week, making it an ideal opportunity for candidates looking to begin their teaching journey with flexibility. There is also potential to increase your working hours by undertaking additional Teaching Assistant responsibilities in other areas of the school, subject to school needs.
Working within a welcoming and supportive PE department, you will play a key role in ensuring practical lessons run smoothly while developing your classroom skills alongside experienced teachers and mentors.
As a Grad2Teach trainee, you will:
- Support teaching and learning within the PE department across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Prepare, organise and maintain PE equipment and facilities
- Assist with the delivery of practical lessons across a range of sports and physical activities
- Support extracurricular clubs, fixtures, tournaments and school sporting events
- Help promote a positive, safe and inclusive sporting environment
- Develop your teaching practice through observations, mentoring and guided classroom experience
- Have the opportunity to undertake additional Teaching Assistant duties to increase your contracted hours

About You – Candidate Profile
You may be a recent graduate, sports coach, teaching assistant or aspiring educator with a passion for Physical Education and young people. We are looking for someone who:
- Is a motivated aspiring PE teacher / graduate trainee
- Holds (or is working towards) a degree in Sport, Physical Education, Sports Science or a related subject
- Has experience working with young people through schools, coaching or community sport
- Is enthusiastic, energetic and committed to promoting healthy, active lifestyles
- Demonstrates excellent communication and organisational skills
- Can build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Holds a full UK driving licence (essential)
- Is willing to undertake additional Teaching Assistant responsibilities if opportunities arise
- Is committed to developing through high-quality mentoring and professional training
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
This role follows Grad2Teach's fully salaried, two-phase teacher training model.
Phase One – PE Technician & Foundational Training
- Work as a PE Technician while completing your Level 4 NCFE customised qualification
- Training aligned to the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers' Standards
- Learn through guided practice, lesson observations, mentoring and professional studies
- Develop classroom confidence and practical teaching skills
- Gain increasing classroom responsibility as your experience grows
Phase Two – PGCE & QTS (Coventry University)
Subject to successful progression, Phase Two includes:
- Teaching responsibility of up to 18 hours per week
- Completion of a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE)
- Ongoing mentoring, assessment and instructional coaching
- Development towards meeting all Teachers' Standards
This structured pathway provides the experience, confidence and qualifications needed to become a fully qualified secondary PE teacher.
