Trainee Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher
Partnerships Co-ordinator
About the Role
Are you a graduate with strong language skills and a passion for inspiring young people?
Grad2Teach is recruiting a Trainee Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) Teacher for a supportive secondary school in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. The school is particularly interested in candidates who can teach Spanish, although applications from strong linguists with other relevant MFL specialisms are also welcomed.
This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring teacher to gain valuable classroom experience while completing a structured, salaried teacher training programme and working towards becoming a fully qualified teacher.
About the Role
As a Trainee MFL Teacher, you will be employed within the school and develop your teaching skills through practical, school-based experience alongside Grad2Teach training.
During Phase One, you will complete a Level 4 NCFE Customised Qualification while building your confidence and experience in the classroom. Grad2Teach’s Phase One qualifications are practical and portfolio-based, designed to prepare graduate trainees for increased classroom responsibility and progression into formal Initial Teacher Training.
Depending on your experience, responsibilities could include:
-
Supporting and delivering engaging MFL lessons across the secondary age range.
-
Working particularly within Spanish teaching, where this matches your language expertise.
-
Supporting pupils to develop their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
-
Assisting with lesson planning, assessment and classroom management.
-
Providing classroom cover and gradually taking greater responsibility for teaching.
-
Working alongside experienced MFL teachers and learning effective subject-specific pedagogy.
-
Developing the confidence and evidence required to progress towards independent teaching.
This is a salaried teacher training opportunity, allowing you to work, earn and train within a real school environment rather than stepping away from employment to begin your teaching career.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate trainee teacher who is serious about developing a long-term career in education.
You may be a recent graduate, career changer, teaching assistant, cover supervisor or someone with previous experience working with young people.
Ideally, you will:
-
Hold a degree and have strong academic or professional knowledge of modern foreign languages.
-
Be confident using Spanish, with the ability to support or teach the language being particularly desirable.
-
Have a genuine interest in becoming an MFL teacher.
-
Communicate confidently and build positive relationships with young people.
-
Be reliable, organised and willing to learn from experienced colleagues.
-
Be prepared to reflect on your practice and gradually take on increased classroom responsibility.
Previous school experience would be beneficial, but the most important qualities are your subject knowledge, enthusiasm for languages and commitment to developing into an effective teacher.
Training & Progression
Grad2Teach provides a structured pathway designed to help aspiring teachers build their classroom experience before progressing into formal teacher training.
During Phase One, you will combine your salaried school role with structured training focused on classroom practice and the Teachers’ Standards, building the knowledge and evidence required for progression. Grad2Teach’s training programme has also been structured around the Core Content Framework (CCF).
You will complete a Level 4 NCFE Customised Qualification, with training and professional development taking place alongside your work in school.
When you are ready to progress into Phase Two, Grad2Teach supports recognised routes towards Qualified Teacher Status, including the PGCE with QTS through Coventry University’s National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE). Phase Two develops greater independence in the classroom alongside formal teacher training, mentoring and assessment.
The aim is to take you from aspiring MFL teacher to a confident, qualified professional with substantial classroom experience behind you.
