Trainee Food Technology Teacher - Teach Ready
Partnerships Co-ordinator
About the Role
Grad2Teach is recruiting an experienced Trainee Food Technology Teacher to join a successful all-girls secondary school in St Albans, Hertfordshire.
This opportunity is specifically suited to someone who already has strong classroom experience and is ready to take the next step towards becoming a fully qualified teacher.
Unlike an entry-level trainee position, the school is looking for a confident, teach-ready candidate who would be comfortable taking responsibility for a full teaching timetable from the outset. You should already understand the demands of managing a classroom, planning and delivering engaging lessons, assessing pupil progress and maintaining high expectations.
Your main specialism will be Food Technology, but the successful candidate will also need the confidence and flexibility to contribute across the wider Design & Technology curriculum, including Textiles.
You will be supported by Grad2Teach through a structured, salaried teacher training pathway while developing your teaching practice within the school.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Trainee Food Technology Teacher, you will:
-
Take responsibility for a full teaching timetable from the beginning of the placement.
-
Plan and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons across the relevant secondary age ranges.
-
Teach additional Design & Technology subjects where required, particularly Textiles.
-
Manage your own classes confidently and establish positive relationships with pupils.
-
Plan lessons, assess progress and provide effective feedback.
-
Maintain high expectations for behaviour, participation and achievement.
-
Contribute to the wider Design & Technology department and school community.
-
Complete structured Grad2Teach training alongside your classroom responsibilities.
-
Build evidence against the Teachers’ Standards as you progress towards qualified teacher status.
About You
This is not an entry-level classroom opportunity. We are looking for a graduate trainee teacher with meaningful school and classroom experience who is ready for substantial teaching responsibility.
You will ideally:
-
Hold a degree and have relevant experience within a secondary school environment.
-
Have strong knowledge of Food Technology, Food Preparation and Nutrition, or a closely related discipline.
-
Have previous experience delivering lessons or taking responsibility for classes.
-
Be comfortable managing a full timetable from the outset.
-
Be confident planning and delivering lessons independently.
-
Have the flexibility to teach Textiles and other areas of Design & Technology alongside Food Technology.
-
Demonstrate strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
-
Be organised, reliable and able to manage the workload associated with independent teaching.
-
Be passionate about supporting young people and developing a long-term career in education.
-
Be ready to engage fully with professional training, reflection and development.
Experience in an unqualified teaching or similar role would be particularly valuable.
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
Grad2Teach offers a salaried, school-based teacher training programme designed to allow aspiring teachers to work, earn and develop their practice while progressing towards qualified teacher status.
During Phase One, trainees complete structured school-based development alongside an NCFE Level 4 Customised Qualification, with training focused on areas including planning, assessment, behaviour, inclusion and effective teaching practice.
Training and development are aligned with the Teachers’ Standards, with structured observations, mentoring and professional reflection helping trainees build evidence of their classroom practice.
Because this vacancy is aimed at an experienced, teach-ready practitioner, your existing classroom experience and readiness will be considered when determining the most appropriate progression pathway.
Grad2Teach supports progression into recognised Initial Teacher Training routes, including a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University’s National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE). Successful trainees completing this route achieve PGCE with QTS and 60 credits towards a Master’s degree.
The result is a structured route that allows you to continue developing in school while working towards becoming a fully qualified Food Technology and Design & Technology teacher.
Why This Opportunity?
This role offers an excellent next step if you are already experienced in the classroom but need the training, qualifications and structured support to progress towards QTS.
You will benefit from:
-
A salaried teacher training route.
-
Immediate responsibility for your own teaching timetable.
-
Specialist experience teaching Food Technology.
-
Opportunities to broaden your experience through Textiles and wider Design & Technology.
-
School-based training and professional development.
-
A structured Grad2Teach qualification and training programme.
-
Support and mentoring throughout your development.
-
A pathway towards PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status.
