Trainee Maths Teachers
Partnerships Co-ordinator
About the Role
Grad2Teach is working in partnership with a trust of schools across the Midlands to develop a new pipeline of talented Maths teachers from within its own schools.
This is an exciting opportunity for graduates and aspiring teachers who want to build a long-term career in education while gaining valuable experience in a supportive school environment.
Successful candidates will initially join one of the trust’s schools as a Teaching Assistant, supporting pupils and teachers in the classroom while developing the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to become a Maths teacher.
Rather than moving straight into a full teaching role, you will follow a structured development programme, with your teaching responsibilities increasing gradually as your confidence and classroom experience grow.
Your initial responsibilities may include:
-
Supporting Maths teaching and learning across the school.
-
Working with individual pupils and small groups to develop mathematical understanding.
-
Helping teachers prepare resources and deliver engaging lessons.
-
Supporting pupils who need additional guidance or challenge.
-
Developing your understanding of classroom practice, behaviour management and effective teaching.
-
Taking on opportunities to lead learning activities and gradually build towards teaching lessons.
The aim is to identify and develop future Maths teachers from within the trust, creating a sustainable pathway into the teaching profession.
About You – Candidate Profile
We are looking for enthusiastic, committed individuals who have a genuine interest in Maths and a desire to inspire young people.
You will ideally have:
-
A degree in Maths or a closely related subject, or a strong academic background in Maths.
-
A passion for helping pupils understand and enjoy mathematics.
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to explain ideas clearly.
-
Patience, resilience and a positive approach to supporting learners.
-
The confidence to build relationships with pupils and colleagues.
-
A willingness to learn, reflect and develop through feedback.
-
A genuine commitment to progressing into a qualified Maths teaching role.
Previous experience working with children or in a school environment would be beneficial, but enthusiasm, potential and a commitment to professional development are equally important.
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
Grad2Teach provides a structured, school-based route into teaching, combining practical classroom experience with professional training and development.
Phase One – Teaching Assistant and Developing Practitioner
You will begin in a Teaching Assistant role within one of the partner schools, while undertaking a Level 4 NCFE customised qualification.
During this phase, you will:
-
Develop your understanding of effective teaching and learning.
-
Build confidence supporting Maths lessons and working with pupils.
-
Receive guidance, mentoring and regular feedback from experienced teachers.
-
Observe skilled practitioners and learn how to plan and deliver effective lessons.
-
Gradually take on more responsibility for leading learning and teaching as your skills develop.
The programme is designed to support your progression at a sustainable pace, ensuring you build a strong foundation before taking on greater teaching responsibility.
Phase Two – Progression Towards Qualified Teacher Status
Subject to successful progression and meeting programme requirements, you can move into Phase Two, taking on increased teaching responsibility while working towards a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE).
You will continue to receive mentoring, assessment and professional development as you work towards meeting the Teachers’ Standards.
Location & Application
Location: Partner schools across the Midlands.
These opportunities form part of a wider partnership with a trust of schools committed to developing its own future Maths teaching workforce.
If you are passionate about Maths and interested in building a career in teaching through a supportive, school-based development programme, we would love to hear from you.
