About the Role

Are you a confident and classroom-ready aspiring English teacher looking for a salaried route into teaching? Ralph Sadleir Middle School in Hertfordshire is seeking a teach-ready Trainee English Teacher to join their team through the Grad2Teach programme.

This opportunity is perfect for someone prepared to step into substantial classroom responsibility from the outset. In Phase One, you will support the English department, deliver lessons under guidance, take responsibility for groups and classes, and build the professional evidence required for a smooth and timely transition into Phase Two.

As part of the programme, you will complete a Level 4 NCFE customised qualification outside teaching hours—ensuring you can focus your in-school time on developing strong, practical teaching skills. Once you progress to Phase Two, you will take on your own English timetable (up to 18 hours per week) while completing your PGCE with QTS through Coventry University.

For an aspiring English teacher eager to move quickly into independent teaching, this is an excellent pathway.

About You

This role is suited to a candidate who is:

  • Already classroom confident and comfortable leading lessons

  • A graduate in English, Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, or a related subject

  • A motivated and reflective practitioner with potential to accelerate into Phase Two

  • Passionate about inspiring students through language and literature

  • Prepared to build a teaching timetable and take ownership of pupil progress

  • Ready to engage with professional learning linked to the Teaching Standards and Core Content Framework (CCF)

  • Eager to complete the Level 4 qualification and progress to full ITT

You may already have experience such as tutoring, HLTA work, ECT preparation, or unqualified teaching—anything that makes you “teach-ready.”

Training & Progression

As a teach-ready trainee with Grad2Teach, you will benefit from:

  • A salaried Phase One placement with accelerated classroom responsibility

  • A Level 4 NCFE customised qualification designed to prepare you for immediate teaching development

  • Training mapped to the Teaching Standards and Core Content Framework (CCF)

  • Frequent observations, mentoring, and structured tripartite reviews

  • Rapid progression into Phase Two, teaching English independently while completing your PGCE with QTS

  • Full support from Grad2Teach and Coventry University throughout

This pathway is ideal if you are ready to build your teaching timetable early and move confidently toward QTS.
