About the Role

Are you a creative graduate with a passion for Drama, performance and education? Grad2Teach is recruiting a Trainee Drama Teacher to join a supportive secondary school in West Norfolk, within the King’s Lynn area.

This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring Drama teacher who wants to gain meaningful classroom experience while completing structured teacher training and working towards becoming a fully qualified teacher.

About the Role

As a Phase One Trainee Drama Teacher, you will become part of the school community while developing the practical skills and confidence required to progress into teaching.

Working within the Drama department, you will gain experience supporting pupils across the secondary age range and develop your understanding of effective Drama teaching.

Depending on your experience and readiness, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting and delivering Drama lessons and practical activities.

  • Working with pupils individually and in groups to develop confidence, creativity and performance skills.

  • Supporting lesson planning, preparation and assessment.

  • Developing effective classroom and behaviour management strategies.

  • Helping pupils explore performance, characterisation, scripted work and devised Drama.

  • Supporting school productions, performances and extracurricular Drama activities where appropriate.

  • Gradually taking on greater teaching responsibility as your skills develop.

You will be employed in school while completing Grad2Teach’s structured Phase One teacher training programme, giving you the opportunity to train and earn at the same time.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate trainee who is serious about developing a career in Drama teaching.

You could be a recent graduate, teaching assistant, cover supervisor, performing arts professional or career changer looking for a structured route into education.

Ideally, you will:

  • Hold a degree, preferably in Drama, Theatre, Performing Arts or a closely related subject.

  • Have a genuine enthusiasm for working with young people.

  • Be confident, engaging and comfortable communicating in front of groups.

  • Bring creativity and energy to the classroom.

  • Be reliable, professional and willing to learn from experienced teachers.

  • Have an interest in helping pupils build confidence through Drama and performance.

  • Be committed to progressing towards Qualified Teacher Status.

Previous school or classroom experience would be beneficial, but applications are welcomed from strong graduates with relevant experience and the potential to become excellent teachers.

Training & Progression

During Phase One, you will combine salaried, school-based experience with a Level 4 NCFE Customised Qualification through Grad2Teach. Training is designed to develop your classroom practice while building your understanding of areas including lesson planning, behaviour, assessment, inclusion and effective teaching techniques.

Your training and development will be structured around the expectations of the Teachers’ Standards, with Grad2Teach providing ongoing support as you build your confidence and evidence of effective classroom practice.

Once ready to progress, you can move into Phase Two, where Grad2Teach supports trainees into recognised Initial Teacher Training pathways. The PGCE with QTS route is delivered in partnership with Coventry University’s National Institute of Teaching and Education, combining independent classroom teaching with university-led training and assessment.

This creates a clear pathway from graduate trainee to confident classroom practitioner and qualified Drama teacher.

Why Train with Grad2Teach?

Grad2Teach offers a school-based route into teaching that allows you to develop through real classroom experience rather than stepping away from employment to train.

You will benefit from:

  • Salaried, school-based teacher training.

  • A recognised Level 4 qualification during Phase One.

  • Practical experience within a secondary school.

  • Structured training and professional development.

  • Support from school-based mentors and Grad2Teach.

  • A clear progression route towards formal Initial Teacher Training and QTS.

  • The opportunity to build your career within a school from the beginning.
