Grad2Teach is recruiting a Trainee Computer Science Teacher for a supportive secondary school in Bedfordshire. This salaried teacher training opportunity allows you to gain hands-on classroom experience, complete a Level 4 NCFE customised qualification during Phase One, and build towards progression into formal Initial Teacher Training, including the PGCE with QTS route.
About the Role
As a Phase One Trainee Computer Science Teacher, you will work within an established Computing department, gaining practical experience while developing the skills needed to become a confident secondary teacher.
Rather than beginning immediately with the pressure of a full teaching timetable, Phase One provides the opportunity to develop your classroom practice progressively. Grad2Teach's model combines salaried, school-based experience with structured professional training.
Depending on your experience and the needs of the department, your responsibilities may include:
- Supporting Computer Science and Computing lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Helping pupils develop their programming and computational-thinking skills
- Supporting learning in areas such as Python, algorithms, computer systems, networks, cybersecurity and digital literacy
- Working with individuals and small groups who require additional support or challenge
- Supporting lesson preparation and classroom activities
- Developing behaviour management, lesson planning and assessment skills
- Observing experienced Computer Science teachers and reflecting on effective classroom practice
- Gradually taking responsibility for elements of lessons and teaching as your confidence develops

About You – Candidate Profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic aspiring Computer Science teacher who can bring strong subject knowledge, professionalism and a genuine interest in helping young people succeed.
You may be a recent graduate, graduate trainee or career changer coming from a technology-based profession.
Ideally, you will:
- Hold, or be working towards, a degree in Computer Science or a closely related subject, such as Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science or Cybersecurity
- Have a strong interest in programming, computing and emerging technology
- Be able to explain technical concepts clearly and accessibly
- Be enthusiastic about working with secondary-age pupils
- Demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills
- Be reliable, reflective and willing to learn from experienced teachers
- Be confident building positive professional relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Be committed to developing into an effective and knowledgeable Computer Science teacher
Previous experience working with young people is beneficial, but candidates with strong transferable skills and the right potential are also encouraged to apply.
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
Grad2Teach provides a structured, salaried and school-based pathway into teaching. Trainees are able to develop their classroom practice while completing accredited professional development and preparing for progression towards Qualified Teacher Status.
Phase One – Level 4 & Foundational Training
During Phase One, you will:
- Complete an NCFE-accredited Level 4 customised qualification
- Develop your classroom practice through real school-based experience
- Undertake structured training informed by the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers' Standards
- Learn through observations, mentoring, professional study and reflection
- Build evidence of your professional development
- Gradually increase your classroom responsibilities as your skills and confidence grow
Grad2Teach's Level 4 pathway is designed to provide meaningful preparation before trainees progress into formal Initial Teacher Training.
Phase Two – PGCE & QTS
Subject to successful progression and the appropriate pathway, you can move into Phase Two, taking greater responsibility for teaching while working towards Qualified Teacher Status.
The PGCE with QTS pathway through Coventry University's National Institute of Teaching and Education (NITE) combines independent classroom teaching with university training, mentoring, assignments and professional development.
Grad2Teach also supports other recognised routes to QTS depending on a trainee's experience, eligibility and school circumstances.
