About the Role

Are you a graduate or career changer looking to become a secondary school teacher while earning a salary?

Grad2Teach is recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Secondary Teacher – Cover Supervisor to join a secondary school in the King's Lynn area of West Norfolk.

This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring teacher to gain valuable classroom experience, develop essential teaching skills and begin a structured, salaried route towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Working as a Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will supervise lessons in the absence of teaching staff, manage classroom behaviour and help pupils remain engaged with their learning.

Alongside your school-based employment, you will complete Phase One of the Grad2Teach salaried teacher training programme, working towards an accredited NCFE Level 4 qualification designed to prepare you for progression into formal teacher training.

This role is particularly suited to graduates considering secondary teaching, individuals with experience working with young people, or career changers seeking a rewarding new profession.

Key Responsibilities

As a Trainee Secondary Teacher and Cover Supervisor, you will:

  • Supervise classes across a range of secondary subjects using work provided by teaching staff.

  • Establish a positive, purposeful classroom environment and manage pupil behaviour effectively.

  • Support students with their learning and encourage participation and engagement.

  • Build confidence in classroom management, communication and lesson delivery.

  • Work closely with experienced teachers and school leaders to develop your teaching practice.

  • Support wider school activities and contribute positively to school life.

  • Complete Grad2Teach's structured Phase One training alongside your school responsibilities.

  • Develop the professional knowledge and practical experience needed to progress towards independent teaching.

About You

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and adaptable individual who is passionate about education and committed to becoming a qualified secondary school teacher.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree or be working towards meeting the entry requirements for teacher training.

  • Have a genuine interest in teaching and supporting young people aged 11–16.

  • Demonstrate strong communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.

  • Be confident working with groups of secondary school students.

  • Have a positive, proactive attitude and a willingness to learn.

  • Be able to establish professional relationships with pupils and colleagues.

  • Show resilience, flexibility and confidence when managing different classroom situations.

  • Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, tutor, youth worker or in another educational setting would be beneficial but is not essential.

We particularly welcome applications from graduates and career changers who are ready to take their first steps into teaching.
