About the Role

Start your teaching career in Norfolk with Grad2Teach – earn a salary, gain valuable classroom experience, and work towards becoming a qualified secondary school teacher.

Grad2Teach is recruiting an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee Secondary Teacher – Cover Supervisor to join a supportive secondary school in Norfolk.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate, career changer, or experienced teaching assistant who wants to enter the teaching profession through a structured, salaried teacher training programme.

During Phase One, you will work as a Cover Supervisor, gaining hands-on experience across different subjects and year groups while completing an NCFE Level 4 qualification through Grad2Teach.

You will gradually develop your classroom management, lesson delivery, and teaching skills, preparing you for progression into Phase Two and a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) through Coventry University.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise secondary school classes during the absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged and focused on their learning.

  • Deliver pre-prepared lessons and maintain a positive, productive classroom environment.

  • Develop effective behaviour management and classroom leadership skills.

  • Support students across a range of subjects and abilities, including those with additional learning needs.

  • Build positive professional relationships with students, teachers, and school staff.

  • Assist with wider school activities, pastoral responsibilities, and student development where appropriate.

  • Participate in Grad2Teach training, mentoring, observations, and professional development.

  • Work towards becoming a confident, independent secondary school teacher.

About You – Who We're Looking For

We are looking for an aspiring teacher who is enthusiastic about education and committed to making a positive difference in young people's lives.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a degree or be a graduate preparing to enter the teaching profession.

  • Have a genuine interest in secondary education and supporting young people.

  • Demonstrate confidence, professionalism, and strong communication skills.

  • Be comfortable leading a classroom and managing student behaviour.

  • Be organised, reliable, adaptable, and willing to learn.

  • Have the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.

  • Be committed to completing a structured teacher training programme and progressing towards QTS.

Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, HLTA, tutor, or youth worker would be advantageous but is not essential.

We also welcome applications from career changers who have transferable skills and a passion for education.

Training & Progression – The Grad2Teach Pathway

Grad2Teach provides a flexible, salaried route into secondary teaching, allowing you to gain practical school experience while developing the knowledge and qualifications required to become a teacher.

  • Build the confidence, skills, and experience needed to progress into formal Initial Teacher Training.

Phase Two – PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Once you are ready to progress, you can move into Phase Two of the Grad2Teach programme.

During this stage, you will:

  • Progress towards a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University, subject to meeting entry requirements.
