About the Role

As a Phase One Trainee Teacher, you will work alongside experienced educators, supporting Psychology lessons and developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to become an outstanding teacher. You will receive mentoring, coaching, and practical classroom experience while completing the Grad2Teach Level 4 qualification.

This graduate teaching role provides a clear pathway towards qualified teacher status through Phase Two, including independent teaching responsibilities and a PGCE route with Coventry University.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of engaging Psychology lessons across secondary and post-16 learners.
  • Assist with lesson preparation, classroom activities, and student progress monitoring.
  • Develop effective behaviour management and classroom practice.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Gain practical experience across a range of teaching and learning activities.
  • Work closely with experienced teachers and mentors to develop your teaching practice.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school community.

    About You

We are looking for a motivated graduate trainee, future teacher, or aspiring Psychology teacher who is passionate about education and making a positive difference to young people's lives.

    You may be:

    • A Psychology graduate or hold a degree in a related social science subject.
    • Considering a long-term career in secondary teaching.
    • Looking for a paid teacher training route rather than returning to full-time university study.
    • Enthusiastic, resilient, and eager to learn.
    • Able to communicate effectively with young people and colleagues.
    • Organised, professional, and committed to personal development.

Previous experience working with young people, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or teaching assistance is beneficial but not essential.

    Training & Progression

Grad2Teach offers a comprehensive and structured pathway into teaching.

    Phase One

During your first phase, you will:

    • Complete the Grad2Teach Level 4 Qualification.
    • Develop your understanding of effective teaching and learning.
    • Build evidence against the Core Content Framework (CCF).
    • Begin working towards the Teachers' Standards.
    • Receive ongoing mentoring and instructional coaching.
    • Gain extensive classroom experience within a supportive school environment.

    Phase Two

Following successful completion of Phase One, you will progress to:

    • Increased responsibility for planning and delivering lessons.
    • Independent teaching experience.
    • Continued professional development aligned to the Teachers' Standards.
    • A PGCE with Coventry University.
