Trainee Primary Teacher - HLTA role
Partnerships Co-ordinator
About the Role
Are you an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) looking to take the next step towards becoming a qualified primary teacher?
Grad2Teach is working with a supportive primary school in Norfolk to recruit a Primary Trainee Teacher who will begin their journey in an HLTA capacity while following a structured, salaried teacher training programme. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring teachers, graduates, and experienced school support staff who want to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) while remaining employed in school.
As a Primary Trainee Teacher, you will support teaching and learning across the primary age range, deliver small-group interventions, provide classroom cover when required, and gradually develop the skills and confidence needed to become an effective classroom teacher.
Through Grad2Teach's unique two-phase training model, you will earn while you learn, gaining valuable classroom experience alongside a recognised Level 4 qualification before progressing towards a PGCE with QTS.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working within a primary school environment
- May currently be an HLTA, Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, or graduate trainee
- Is passionate about primary education and child development
- Has strong communication and organisational skills
- Is enthusiastic about developing into a qualified teacher
- Can build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
- Is committed to professional growth and reflective practice
A degree is desirable for progression towards QTS, although Grad2Teach can advise candidates on suitable pathways based on their qualifications and experience.
Training & Progression
Grad2Teach offers a structured salaried pathway into teaching, combining practical classroom experience with professional development. During Phase One, trainees complete a Level 4 qualification while gaining valuable in-school experience without the pressure of a full teaching timetable. Training is aligned with the Core Content Framework (CCF) and the Teachers' Standards.
As you progress, you will:
- Complete an NCFE-accredited Level 4 qualification
- Receive mentoring and ongoing professional support
- Build evidence against the Teachers' Standards
- Participate in observations, coaching, and development reviews
- Develop increasing classroom responsibility
Successful trainees can progress into Phase Two, teaching more independently while completing a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University, leading to a rewarding career as a fully qualified teacher.
