About the Role
As a Phase One Trainee Teacher, you will work alongside experienced Geography teachers, supporting lessons and developing the practical skills needed to become an effective classroom practitioner. You will receive expert mentoring, professional coaching, and structured training while completing the Grad2Teach Level 4 qualification.
This role provides a clear progression route into Phase Two, leading to increased teaching responsibility, a PGCE with Coventry University, and ultimately Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Key Responsibilities
- Support the delivery of engaging Geography lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Assist students in developing their understanding of physical and human geography.
- Help prepare learning resources and classroom activities.
- Support pupil progress and achievement through effective classroom practice.
- Develop behaviour management and lesson delivery skills.
- Work collaboratively with experienced teaching staff and mentors.
- Participate in wider school activities and professional development opportunities.
About You
We are seeking an enthusiastic graduate trainee, aspiring teacher, or future Geography educator who is passionate about helping young people succeed.
You may be:
- A Geography graduate or hold a degree in a related subject such as Environmental Science, Earth Sciences, Geology, International Development, or Sustainability.
- Interested in pursuing a long-term teaching career.
- Looking for a practical, paid alternative to full-time teacher training.
- Motivated, resilient, and eager to learn.
- A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Organised, professional, and committed to personal growth.
Experience working with young people through tutoring, mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, teaching assistance, or voluntary work is advantageous but not essential.
Training & Progression
Grad2Teach offers a comprehensive and structured pathway into teaching.
Phase One
As a Phase One Trainee Teacher, you will:
- Complete the Grad2Teach Level 4 Qualification.
- Gain extensive classroom experience in a secondary school environment.
- Develop expertise aligned with the Core Content Framework (CCF).
- Build evidence towards meeting the Teachers' Standards.
- Receive regular mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
- Learn effective classroom management and teaching strategies.
Phase Two
Upon successful completion of Phase One, you will progress to:
- Increased responsibility for lesson planning and delivery.
- Independent teaching opportunities.
- Ongoing professional development linked to the Teachers' Standards.
- Completion of a PGCE with Coventry University.
- Progression towards Qualified Teacher Status and a successful teaching career.
