About the Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate trainee, aspiring English teacher, trainee educator or career changer who is motivated to make a positive difference to young people's education.

You could be a strong candidate if you:

  • Hold a degree, ideally in English, English Literature, English Language or another relevant subject.
  • Have a strong interest in literature, language, reading and written communication.
  • Are passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential.
  • Communicate confidently and can build positive professional relationships.
  • Are reliable, organised and willing to take responsibility.
  • Are receptive to feedback and keen to develop your teaching practice.
  • Have the resilience and enthusiasm required to learn in a busy school environment.
  • Are committed to progressing towards becoming a qualified English teacher.

Previous classroom experience can be beneficial, but this opportunity may also suit graduates and career changers with relevant transferable skills who are ready to begin their journey into teaching.

Training & Progression

Grad2Teach provides a structured salaried teacher training programme that allows future teachers to develop their skills through meaningful, school-based experience.

Phase One – Level 4 Qualification

During Phase One, you will work towards the Grad2Teach Level 4 qualification while developing practical classroom skills and professional knowledge.

Your training and school-based development will be informed by the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers' Standards, helping you establish the foundations required for effective teaching.

Your development will include areas such as:

  • Lesson planning and preparation.
  • Classroom and behaviour management.
  • Supporting effective English teaching and learning.
  • Developing subject-specific teaching strategies.
  • Assessment and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Supporting different learning needs.
  • Safeguarding and professional responsibilities.
  • Reflective practice and continuous professional development.

This combination of training and practical experience allows you to develop your confidence before progressing to greater teaching responsibility.

Phase Two – Independent Teaching and PGCE

Following successful completion of Phase One and subject to programme requirements, trainees can progress into Phase Two of the Grad2Teach teacher training programme.

During Phase Two, you will move towards independent teaching, taking greater responsibility for planning, delivering and assessing lessons.

Your professional development continues as you progress towards a PGCE with Coventry University and Qualified Teacher Status.

The Grad2Teach route is designed to provide a clear progression pathway from graduate trainee to confident classroom teacher, combining practical school experience with structured professional training.

Why Choose Grad2Teach?

Grad2Teach offers graduates and career changers a practical salaried route into teaching, allowing you to develop within a school rather than waiting until after your training to gain substantial classroom experience.

Through the programme, you can:

  • Earn while you train in a secondary school.
  • Gain meaningful classroom experience from the beginning.
  • Complete the Level 4 qualification during Phase One.
  • Learn alongside experienced teaching professionals.
  • Develop against the Core Content Framework and Teachers' Standards.
  • Build confidence before progressing to independent teaching.
  • Progress into Phase Two and a PGCE with Coventry University.
  • Work towards becoming a qualified secondary English teacher.

If you are searching for English teacher training in Hertfordshire, a graduate teaching role in St Albans, or a salaried alternative to a traditional teacher training route, this opportunity provides a structured pathway into the profession.
