Train to Teach While Making a Real Difference for Children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs
Are you looking for a rewarding career working with children who need support to thrive? This is your opportunity to train as a Primary Teacher while supporting pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs in a caring, trauma-informed school environment.
As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in helping children build confidence, regulate behaviour, and engage in learning—both in and out of the classroom.
This is a full-time, salaried teacher training position with a clear route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
About the Grad2Teach Programme
Through the Grad2Teach salaried teacher training route, you will:

Work in a supportive school while earning a salary

Complete a fully-funded PGCE with QTS, awarded by Coventry University

Gain hands-on experience from day one

Follow a structured training plan based on the ITT Core Content Framework

Be supported by expert mentors throughout your training
What the Role Involves
As part of your training and daily responsibilities, you will:

Support pupils with SEMH needs in both mainstream and specialist settings
-
Deliver targeted interventions to help pupils overcome barriers to learning
-
Help create and implement Classroom Support Plans in collaboration with senior staff
-
Promote independence, resilience, and positive behaviour in pupils
-
Support teachers with lesson delivery and classroom organisation
-
Attend relevant meetings and contribute to student progress reviews

Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies as needed
-
Support transitions for pupils moving between settings or phases
-
Commit to ongoing professional development and safeguarding responsibilities
One extended working day per week (until 4.15pm) includes supporting an after-school club.
Who We’re Looking For
This opportunity is ideal for someone who:

Holds a bachelor’s degree in any subject
-
Has GCSEs in English and Maths at grade 4/C or above

Has experience working with children or young people—especially those with SEN or SEMH needs

Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills
-
Is calm, empathetic, and resilient under pressure
-
Is passionate about inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and educational equality
-
Wants to become a fully qualified teacher while gaining valuable experience
