About the Role

Are you passionate about Religious Education, philosophy, ethics and helping young people understand different beliefs and perspectives? Grad2Teach is recruiting a Trainee Religious Education (RE) Teacher for a supportive secondary school in Coventry, West Midlands.

This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or career changer looking for a salaried teacher training route. You will gain valuable school-based experience while completing Phase One of the Grad2Teach programme before progressing towards independent teaching and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Grad2Teach's programme combines salaried, school-based experience with accredited Phase One training and progression into formal Initial Teacher Training.

About the Role

As a Phase One Trainee RE Teacher, you will become part of a secondary school community in Coventry, developing your classroom skills alongside experienced teachers.

Religious Education gives pupils opportunities to explore religious and non-religious worldviews, consider different perspectives and develop their ability to discuss complex ethical questions.

Your responsibilities will gradually develop and may include:

  • Supporting Religious Education and Religious Studies lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Working with pupils to encourage thoughtful discussion, critical thinking and respectful debate.
  • Supporting lesson planning, preparation and classroom activities.
  • Developing effective behaviour management and classroom communication.
  • Helping pupils of different abilities engage with challenging philosophical, religious and ethical topics.
  • Observing experienced teachers and reflecting on effective teaching practice.
  • Gradually taking greater responsibility for lesson planning and delivery as your confidence develops.

This graduate teaching role in Coventry allows you to build your skills in a real school environment while earning a salary and working towards your teaching career.

About You

We are looking for a motivated and reflective aspiring RE teacher who is excited about working with young people and developing a career in secondary education.

You could be:

  • A graduate in Religious Studies, Theology, Philosophy, History, Sociology, Politics or another relevant discipline.
  • A career changer with strong subject knowledge and an interest in education.
  • A teaching assistant, cover supervisor or school support professional ready to progress into teacher training.
  • A graduate trainee with excellent communication skills and the confidence to discuss different viewpoints sensitively.
  • A reliable, enthusiastic and proactive future teacher who is ready to learn from experienced colleagues.

A degree does not necessarily need to be specifically in Religious Education to train as an RE teacher; candidates from related academic backgrounds can also be suitable.
