Grad2Teach is offering an exciting Phase Two Trainee Teacher – Girls’ Physical Education (PE) & Sports Specialist opportunity at a supportive school in Reading, Berkshire. This is a one-year Phase Two placement designed for candidates who are ready to take on increased teaching responsibility while completing their PGCE with QTS.

As a Girls’ Sports Specialist, you will play an important role in inspiring female students to participate, compete and achieve across a broad range of sporting activities. You will become an integral part of the PE department, developing your teaching practice while contributing to the wider sporting life of the school.

The placement provides the opportunity to work alongside experienced PE teachers and mentors who will support you throughout the year, helping you develop your confidence, classroom practice and professional skills.

As a Phase Two trainee, you will:

  • Teach engaging PE lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
  • Develop and deliver lessons specifically supporting girls’ participation and engagement in sport
  • Support students in developing physical skills, confidence, teamwork and resilience
  • Contribute to extracurricular clubs, fixtures, tournaments and sporting events
  • Help promote positive attitudes towards physical activity and healthy lifestyles
  • Work closely with experienced PE staff and mentors to refine your teaching practice
  • Take increasing responsibility for planning, teaching and assessing student progress
  • Contribute to the wider life and values of the school

About You – Candidate Profile

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Girls’ Sports Specialist who is passionate about helping young people develop through sport.

You will:

  • Be an aspiring PE teacher ready to undertake a Phase Two placement
  • Have a degree or relevant qualification in Sport, Physical Education, Sports Science or a related subject
  • Have a genuine passion for girls’ participation in sport and physical activity
  • Be confident delivering engaging practical PE lessons
  • Have strong communication, organisation and teamwork skills
  • Be able to build positive relationships with students and inspire them to participate
  • Demonstrate good classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Be enthusiastic, reflective and committed to developing as a teacher
  • Be keen to contribute to extracurricular sport and the wider school community

Experience in coaching or participating in women's/girls' sport would be highly desirable.

Training & Progression with Grad2Teach

Phase Two – PGCE & QTS

This is a one-year Phase Two placement for candidates progressing towards qualified teacher status.

As part of the programme, you will:

  • Take on significant teaching responsibility
  • Complete your PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE)
  • Receive ongoing mentoring and professional support
  • Take part in lesson observations and developmental feedback
  • Develop your practice against the Teachers’ Standards
  • Build confidence in planning, teaching, assessment and behaviour management
  • Gain the experience required to begin your career as a qualified PE teacher

Throughout the placement, you will be supported by experienced school staff and Grad2Teach mentors as you work towards successfully completing your training year.

Reading, Berkshire
