Grad2Teach is offering an exciting Graduate Trainee Teacher – Art opportunity at a supportive secondary school in Hendon, London. This salaried Phase One position combines the responsibilities of an Art Technician with hands-on classroom experience, allowing you to begin your teaching journey while studying towards your Level 4 qualification, with a clear pathway to Phase Two, PGCE and QTS.
The school is committed to creativity, inclusion and high-quality teaching, with a strong emphasis on developing students’ artistic confidence and self-expression. You will work within a collaborative Art department, supporting both practical learning and the smooth running of the department.
As a Grad2Teach trainee, you will:
- Support teaching and learning within the Art department across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Assist teachers in preparing materials, displays and practical classroom activities
- Maintain and organise art equipment, resources and studio spaces
- Support students during practical lessons and creative projects
- Help create an inspiring and safe learning environment for young artists
- Gain valuable classroom experience while developing your teaching practice through mentoring and training
This role is ideal for a graduate who wants to earn while they train, contribute creatively from day one, and build a long-term career in Art education.
About You – Candidate Profile
You may be a recent graduate, creative practitioner, teaching assistant or aspiring educator with a passion for Art and design. We are looking for someone who:
- Is a motivated aspiring Art teacher / graduate trainee
- Holds (or is working towards) a degree in Art, Fine Art, Design or a related creative subject
- Has a strong interest in secondary Art education
- Is enthusiastic, imaginative and eager to grow into an excellent teacher
- Demonstrates creativity, organisation and a proactive attitude
- Can build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- Is committed to high standards, teamwork and professional development
Training & Progression with Grad2Teach
This role follows Grad2Teach’s fully salaried, two-phase teacher training model:
Phase One – Level 4 & Foundational Training
- Complete your Level 4 NCFE customised qualification while working in school
- Training aligned to the Core Content Framework (CCF) and Teachers’ Standards
- Learn through guided practice, classroom observations, mentoring and professional learning sessions
Phase Two – PGCE & QTS (Coventry University)
Subject to successful progression, Phase Two includes:
- Increased teaching responsibility (up to 18 hours per week)
- Completion of a PGCE with QTS through Coventry University (NITE)
- Ongoing mentoring, assessment and development towards meeting all Teachers’ Standards
